These clones were collected in the 1990s by Agri-Obtentions, a subsidiary of INRAE (French national institute for agricultural research).
Various hybrids were produced as part of a program aimed at studying sexual reproduction in garlic and creating new genetic variability.
In 2008, they were transferred to the BrACySol genetic resources bank of INRAE.
Among them, 19 were entrusted to me last autumn, they are:
MX2, MX4, MX5, J130, J184, J197, J211-19, J200-2, TA1, TA4.
Some hybrids obtained between them:
MX2 × J130, MX4 × J203, MX5 × J184, TP5 × J197.
And some of the series:
AS 01 5 1, AS 01 5 2, AS 01 5 3, AS 01 5 6, and AS 01 13 1.
The MX clones originate from Mexico, the J from the Russian Federation, and the TA from Tajikistan.
This year 2025, being far too overwhelmed, I was unable to remove the bulbils, which nonetheless did not prevent me from harvesting several hundred seeds!
For comparison, among the photos, two show the harvested seeds with a relatively similar number of plants and under the same growing conditions:
- TP5 × J197 is a hybrid clone acquired from INRAE.
- ASL#1 is a wild accession from Kyrgyzstan, distributed by Aleksandr Naumenko, owner of the Nova Zahrada nursery in the Czech Republic.
